Former Igbogbo Students’ Union President, Abdulsallam Tijani Emerges Youngest Council Cabinet Member

Comrade Abdulsallam Adebayo Tijani, appearing before the 6th Legislative Council, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA for his screening as a nominee for cabinet position in the administration of Omoba Hameed Aroyewun

In the next few hours when Omoba Hameed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), the Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), would be swearing – in 22 -man cabinet members that would work with him, one young community mobiliser and students’ leader, Comrade Abdulsallam Adebayo Tijani, will be among those that will be taking the oath of office.

The immediate past President, Igbogbo Students’ Union (ISU) from Ward C1, who was included in the additional list of five nominees by the Chairman, appeared before the Honorable Councilors for screening on Friday, where he received commendations. He is 26 years.

While thanking Aroyewun for considering him worthy of the nomination, Abdulsallam said that the union activities prepared him for the opportunity.

“The nomination, although, I didn’t expect it, but I give thanks to Almighty God, to all the GAC chieftains in Igbogbo Bayeku LCDA, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, and Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, for my nomination. My special thanks to Omoba Hameed Aroyewun for the nomination, and the Igbogbo Students’ Union, because without the Igbogbo Students’ Union, I wouldn’t be here today.

“I also want to thank my colleagues here (other union leaders that accompanied him to the screening). I appreciate them, and also the legislative members. I appreciate their recommendations and commendations.

“I wasn’t asked any question, rather, they all stood up and commended me for what I’ve been doing as a student leader and youth in Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, and they just told me to keep doing good and that’s all”.

When asked if he has been cleared by the House, Comrade Abdulsallam said:

“Yes, according to the leader of the house, she said I’ll be the first person to be cleared, and that I’m the youngest cabinet member in the entire Ikorodu Division and Lagos State at large”.

He assured the people of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA to expect more from him in terms of job delivery when he is allotted a portfolio to work with.

“I can’t promise anything at the moment because I have not been assigned duty, but the people of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA should expect more whenever that is done. I will make sure that I add more energy to the work that I have been doing before now that earned me the nomination, and join hands with my chairman to make Igbogbo/Baiyeku better.

He charged youth to continue to work hard and make themselves available for community service. He also assured youth that he will represent them well in the cabinet.

“My message to the young people out there is that we should all continue to work hard, and work without expecting anything. We must continue to do good and give our best to whatever that we do, because recognition will surely come for us.

“Of course, I don’t know the portfolio that I will be given, but I am promising the youth and students that I will represent them well. Thank you.
